I'm looking for information on existing schemes for running MS-DOS software on Macintosh computers particularly the Macintosh II. I have heard of various hardware and software solutions and I would like to hear from people who are using these products. I am specifically interested in: cost, speed, CGA/EGA emulation, and general robustness of the product. I am someone who wants the Mac II that may soon arrive on my desk, but has to provide support for an existing base of MS-DOS software, so the ability to run OS/2 (OS|2?) is not that important right now. Please send your responses by e-mail and I will summarize to the net if there is sufficient interest. I'm in exactly the same situation as you. What I've learned so far is that the Mac 286 by AST is the only thing out there as far as hardware is concerned. It is expensive in Canada: $2495 list for two boards! We can buy a whole AT clone with a hard disk for that price. I've seen the Mac286 listed for around $1050 US, that's around $1400 Canadian, so as usual our Canadian dealers are overpricing a product. I've heard that most software runs okay, except that screen update is slower that one would perhaps like. I read this in a review.
