A curious problem-- I just added a color monitor to my Mac II. The system now crashes (freezes) after ~12 hours of use. This does not occur with a monochrome monitor, nor does the problem seem to be related to any one program. The crash has these symptoms: the mouse can move the cursor on the screen, but programs do not detect button or key clicks. Has anyone else had a similar problem; if so, what was the cause & cure ? Possible causes that I've come up with (ranging from the possible to the bizzare): 1) The code activated by the 'color' setting (vs. black & white, not # of shades) on the control panel has a time-bomb effect; 2) Poor E-M shielding in monitor or mac (monitor is on top on mac, as was the monochrome); 3) Static charge on surface of monitor (somehow) causing glitch (though this would probably fry the mac, not just crash). 4) Added current draw is causing very short duration low-voltage condition on power line to mac, which would explain why the (interrupt-driven) mouse still works, but the program is hosed; 5) Space aliens from Regulus 6 have invaded. Seriously, this is a bad condition that takes many hours (~12) to show itself, so taking it to a dealer who will just plug it in and say 'Looks OK to me' is not a good solution. However, it is still under warranty, so... Thanks, Steve Fenwick -- \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//////////////////////////////////////// My company is not responsible for what I say.
