[comp.sys.mac] Updater Program

smethers@psu-cs.UUCP (Paul Smethers) (02/26/88)

The publishing department is getting close to a new version of Prototyper
and have asked me if I knew of any programs that can be used to create
an updater for the current version. Ideally it would be nice to have a
program that takes two different programs and creates a new file that
can be used to merge the differences of the two, similarly to how the
LSC 2.13/2.15 scripts did.

Can anyone help me? If you have something at THINK, then would you be
willing to sell it to us? We certainly are not interested in support, but
a quick solution so that we can get our update out with the least amount
of work.

The Apple standard scripts are very poor for what we are doing, and I will
like to avoid them if at all possible.

Thanks in advance

You might try looking into PUP, Paragon Updating Program from Paragon
Concepts (the guys who do QUED and NISUS). I believe that Scott Watson tried
using it for Red Ryder 10.x but seem to recall some minor problems with it, but
they may have fixed them, or Watson may have messed something up. Anyway,
it exists and thought I'd pass the word along...
