I've got a few question about how the Macintosh II does color. Namely, I've got Apple 8-bit video, and I was playing around with the control panel to change the desktop color. I noticed that even with no other applications running under MultiFinder, there are certain colors which I can't use in the desktop. These colors will mapped to an "close" color, although at times "close" can mean a shade of blue for a shade of purple. Now, the question is why? MultiFinder by itself is obviously only using a small subset of the 256 displayable colors in the clut, so why is my color choice being mapped to the closest clut entry? Shouldn't my new color choice replace an unused clut entry? Somehow, it just dosen't make sense for the system not to let me use my color when there is atleast 256-16 avaliable unused colors in the clut (256 = 8-bit moe, 16 since Multifinder uses less than 16 colors). On a related question, how does one change the default clut which MultiFinder uses? I've tried going into PixelPaint, getting a color table which I like, and doing a "Save Colors". This makes a file which among other things, contains a clut resource. Pasting this clut into the Finder and renumbering it causes the Finder display strange looking windows: Icons are shades of blue, some icons are invisible, etc. Puzzled, Christopher Chow /---------------------------------------------------------------------------\ | Internet: chow@tcgould.tn.cornell.edu (128.84.248.35 or 128.84.253.35) | | Usenet: ...{uw-beaver|ihnp4|decvax|vax135}!cornell!batcomputer!chow | | Bitnet: chow@crnlthry.bitnet | | Phone: 1-607-253-6699 Address: 7122 N.
