[comp.sys.mac] How to put printouts in a file?

josip@eneevax.UUCP (Josip Loncaric) (03/18/88)

I have recently acquired TeXtures v1.0 published by Addison-Wesley. This is
a sizable typesetting program with many fonts which take up about 4Mb on a
hard disk. I would like to use it at home to write papers (it has a very nice
preview feature), then write the output on a floppy which I could take to work
and print on a LaserWriter. At work, the Mac which is attached to
a LaserWriter does not have TeXtures installed. Thus, all formatting has to be
done by my home Mac, and I am looking for a way to save the finished PostScript
description of the document on a floppy.

Unfortunately, the only way to print a document that I have found sends the
results directly to the chosen printer. I vaguely remember reading somewhere
that it is possible to send PostScript output to a file instead of LaserWriter
during "Print..." dialog (this apparently works for most applications).
If you know something about this, please mail me a note.

The usual method of saving the document together with its application on a
floppy, taking it to the other Mac and then printing would not work here since
printing requires access to about 4Mb of font data, which is not available on
the other Mac.
