I know this has been tossed around before, but back then I didn't have a Mac II. Now that I do, I of course want more than the 1M that I'm currently using. If I can acquire enough 256K SIMMs left over from Mac SE or Plus upgrades (I already have two), can I plug these into a Mac II to give me an extra meg? I've heard rumors that some people have tried it, and although the memory isn't fast enough (I think that was the argument), it does seem to work. Can anyone comment on this? I view this as only a temporary measure as I hope to upgrade to 4 or 5 meg a little later on. Is this a workable temporary upgrade? -- Peter Steele, Microcomputer Applications Analyst Acadia University, Wolfville, NS, Canada B0P1X0 (902)542-2201x121 UUCP: {uunet|watmath|utai|garfield}dalcs!aucs!Peter BITNET: Peter@Acadia Internet: Peter%Acadia.BITNET@CUNYVM.CUNY.EDU

I've been doing just that, and it seems to work just fine. I think that these platinum boxes are a bit over-engineered and can figure this out. Also, 'way back when in the original Macs, Apple had a proprietary technology which enabled them to use cheap memory w/the 68000 by doing some sort of syncing of clock rates, I don't know any details. I'm taking a guess and thinking that some of this may still be in there. Does anyone know? --Paul
