[comp.sys.mac] Accelerator board query

pjmbaker@uvicctr.UUCP (Peter J. M. Baker) (03/09/88)

I'm seriously considering buying an accelerator board for my Mac+.
I've read the articles in Feb 88 MacWorld and Mar 88 MacUser and have
decided that the Novy Systems (Ormond Beach, FL) Mac20MX is the best thing
to buy. I'm likely to buy the 16Mhz version with 1Meg of ram. It seems
from the MacWorld article, that Total Systems Integration (Eugene, OR)
markets the same board (or is it the other way around?).

Has anybody had any experience with any of these accelerator boards?
Has anybody any words of wisdom with about competitive boards?

					Thanks in advance,
						Peter

I have the Radius Accelerator for the SE, w/ 68881. I could not be more
happy with it. I have had very few program break on it so far. The board
uses a 32K cache scheme so you dont need to transfer the SIMMS from the
motherboard.

To date I have only had real problems with two programs, easy 3d - which
Enableing Tech is aware it wont run, (It was developed in Creative
Solutions FORTH and the development system is flakey twoards the 68020)

It does work with the acceletarot turned off though...

The other problem is the sound software supplied with the Farrlon Mac
Recorder. The sound comes out a tad on the fuzzy side on playback.
Farallon is aware and is working on a fix i guess.
SoundWave works fine though...

You can disable the accelerator, the data cache or the instruction cache
at machine startup. Its really simple.

In a conversation w/ Andy Hertzfield he said it was a really great board,
he had one. He cited his respect for Nolan Bushnell as an engineer also.

so... a big thumbs up from me for the radius. Couldnt be happier.
