I have a Smith Corona D-100 parallel printer(epson compatible) that I would like to use with a MacPlus. I can get the hardware (serial to parallel converter) but no luck on finding the necessary printer driver. Any help is appreciated. -- Marianne Brogan UUCP: {decvax allegra ucbcad ucbvax hplabs ihnp4}!tektronix!reed!brogan CSNET: reed!brogan@Tektronix.CSNET || BITNET: reed!brogan@PSUVAX1.BITNET ARPA: reed!brogan@psuvax1.arpa

Orange Micro sells a serial-to-parallel converter cable for the Mac. This has a built-in Imagewriter II emulator, so apparently all you need is nothing more than the regular IW II driver. It's called the Grappler C/ Mac/GS and sells for <$100.

The current version of the Grappler cable has a number of problems people should be aware of. The printer you are using it on must be able to do reverse line feeds. If it can't then the top of the page will be shifted down a line or two on every page. This would not matter if you are manually feeding single sheets but would matter otherwise. Apparently Orange Micro is aware of the problem and is working on a solution, The other problem I had was in landscape printing. The text is not nearly as well aligned as on the IWII. I did not try setting "Tall Adjusted" to see if it helped. Richard Crispin Dept. of Psychology Bitnet: psych@watdcs University of Waterloo Unix : psych@watdcsu.waterloo.edu Waterloo, Ont.
