I got such good answers to my hard disk query that I will try again with tape drives. We will have one 100 MB hard disk and three 60 MB hard disks to back up. A tape drive looks like a reasonable way to go, and among the drives reviewed in the 8/87 MacWorld, only the Peak Plus 60-Tape and the Relax Tape 60 Plus can put 60 MB on a tape, which is definitely a good thing if you have 60 MB disks. I would like to hear from people who have used these tape drives, or even users of another tape drive if they think it is particularly good. How bad is the fan noise in the Peak drive? Does the lack of a fan effect the reliability of the Relax drive? Would the drive be easy to unplug from one machine and move to another? Is it easy to set up the drive so it will back up the disk automatically at night? If our Macs (of the II variety) were on an Appletalk network, could all the disks be backed up from one Mac? Thanks very much for any information/experiences you can give. Willard Korfhage ARPA : korfhage@cs.ucla.edu UUCP : {ucbvax,ihnp4,randvax,trwrb!trwspp,ism780}!ucla-cs!korfhage
