[net.music] Re topic #1: John Cage

Is John Cage a charlatan? Could be. If so, there's still at least
a little something of worth to what he says (as is the case with most
charlatans).

A few years back I read an interview with Cage in "down beat" in which
he asserted that even thunder is music. The statement really struck me
at the time, and for months afterward I went around in a bit of a daze,
hearing music in every noise, feeling architecture in the trees and
seeing paintings in the spots on the sidewalk. Over the years I've grown
somewhat deaf and blind again, but for a time I could really testify to
the truth of his statement.

Of course, he may still be a charlatan -- if everything is music, why make
a big deal about a composer?
