in the old days, control characters for terminal emulators were simple. the clover was mapped to be the control character. but now, the mac SE and II have real control keys as well as the clover. are they mapping into different parts of the character set? for eample, consider an old copy of red ryder (pre-se). the control key does what its supposed to most of the time, mirroring the clover key. i.e., control-a gives us the same as clover-a. however, control-c gives us (me, at least) a carriage return, while clover-c generates a control-c. and control-h matches the delete key (either backsapce or rubout semantics) while clover-h always gives us backspace. thus to use gnuemacs, one has to define (to RR) the delete key as delete, use clover-h instead of C-h for help. does anyone have any insight into the way the new mac's control/clover keys work and how an old program like the old red ryder can recognize the new control and escape keys. (Do any new terminal emulators support these keys better?) thanks. -rei
