From: penguin@athena.mit.edu (Ricky A Cardenas) Path: athena.mit.edu!penguin Some of you may recall that a while back I posted a plea for help. My hard disk - an FX/20 - had crashed, and I needed to get some files back. Well, I got many replies, and I'd like to thank all of you for the wonderful response. For the record, most people recommended Mac Zap which is what I got and used to attempt to retrieve my files. (BTW, Mac Connection, 1-800-MAC-LISA, WAS a pleasure to do buisness with. Mac Zap arrived the next day (I called them at 5pm!).) Anyway, Mac Zap *seemed* to be worth the money, but now I have 19 disks worth of files which it retrieved. "What's the problem?", you might ask! Well it turns out that so far, of all the documents I've tried (for apps. such as MacWrite and WriteNow) none of them load correctly into the application (disk I/O error...). Of course I didn't expect Mac Zap to retrieve my files sparkling clean, but now I'd like to know what I can do to get these files to load into Write Now. I.E.: Do I have a chance? I haven't had any time to look at the files with ResEdit or MacTools (ViewEdit) yet. (But what are weekends for?) I'll be happy if I can retrieve text, formatting is no big deal. How about paint documents? Does ANYBODY know how to deal with these half-trash, maybe half-good files? I don't own MacConnection. I didn't write Mac Zap either.
