if you are on Internet and can reach rascal.ics.utexas.edu with FTP you can login as user anonymous and retrieve the file mac/TNs_184_to_194.sit.hqx werner on rascal> ll ~ftp/mac/TNs_184_to_194.sit.hqx 73 -rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 74448 Apr 19 21:20 /usr2/ftp/mac/TNs_184 _to_194.sit.hqx please note, however, that rascal is not in the NIC-HOST-table which means that some sites can not establish a connection to it (for reasons not quite clear to me and for which no local guru admits interest nor responsibility) PS: I did not get the Tech-Note #0 with the updated index and would appreciate someone sending me a copy.

several people told me that they cannot reach RASCAL (just as I thought) so I put a copy of the Tech-Notes also on R20.UTEXAS.EDU ... I would like to request that people who attempt to FTP to RASCAL from remote sites (not on the UTEXAS-domain) please send me a note - no matter of they were able to connect or not. I'm trying to collect some data to see if I can figure out why people cannot reach RASCAL. below I enclose the entries for both RASCAL and R20 from our HOSTS-table. if you cannot FTP to the site by name, you can always try the numeric address: 128.83.144.1 rascal.ics.utexas.edu rascal # sun unix 128.83.1.30 r20.utexas.edu r20.cs.utexas.edu ut-r20.utexas.edu # dec/2060 tops20 also a directory listing of the file in the (default) directory when you login with "anonymous" ... NOTE: I also moved the latest data files of MacZap Version 5.1 there (only useful to owners of the program MacZap) astro_werner> ftp r20.utexas.edu Connected to r20.utexas.edu. 220 R20.UTEXAS.EDU FTP Server Process 5Z(14)-7 at Thu 21-Apr-88 18:48-CDT Name (r20.utexas.edu:werner): anonymous 331 ANONYMOUS user ok, send real ident as password. it has been brought to my attention that people were having problems using xbin on Unix-systems to "unhexify" the Tech Notes; apparent cause is that the TNs were stuffed and hexed using StuffIt which fails to put the the identifying line at the beginning: ( This file .....) several people report FTP-problems with both RASCAL *AND* R20 - but success after trying several times .... noone reported success on the FIRST try !!! (please keep those reports coming) NOTE: the UTEXAS-domain has lost their ARPA-IMP (address 10.*.*.*) but most HOST-tables on Internet-sites (including the local ones) still show UTEXAS-domain sites with 10.*.*.* addresses. I understand that by May 1 we are losing our second (and last) IMP and what will happen then to our connectivity only Murphy knows ....
