[comp.sys.mac] virii protection paranoia

[oh for the good old days when we only had to worry about the line eater]

Ok, now I'm kinda confused with all these anti-virus programs and I want to
see if I've got it straight. I've been trying to setup a protected/detective
system disk for testing things.

I have Mike Scanlin's (I think) vaccination program and init as well as
Matthias Urlichs' KillVirus init (no nifty icon unfortunately) both courtesy of
USENET. They don't seem to like each other too well at all. I've also seen
references to Robert Woodhead's Interferon, CE Software's Vaccine and Larry
Nedry's Ferret.

So what should I use? I don't believe that I have seen the latter three on
comp.binaries.mac (I have no ftp access) but the description of Interferon
seems like its the one for general use -- but what will it do to the nVir 10
that KillVirus installs? I've also heard that the method used by Scanlin's
vaccination wouldn't always work is this true? If there is a diffinitive
approach to isolating and testing applications using one of these -- or if some
have strange "side-effects" with other applications I'd like to know.

I'd rather have the advice/binaries from you USENET folks cuz you all seem to
be a more reliable group than is found on some of the local bbs'.

Yes, I'm a novice, and Yes email me and I'll summerize if you want. I do
realize there is no "cure-all" I just want the easiest method so that I
don't have to browse all my files with resedit etc every time I get a new
program.
