The following is a repost of an offer made about 1 week ago to the users of usenet, bitnet, arpanet and any associated networks. I have had numerous requests from people that missed or lost the offer so I am reposting it. Also, I have included information on how to contact The Source if you do not have access to US Toll Free phone numbers at the end of this notice. Please note, though this offer comes to you from MacSIG, The Source does also have other computer SIG's, noteably IBM and Apple as well as others, so please feel free to take advantage of this offer even if you don't have a Macintosh. Those of you that have read this message before can type: J to skip the rest of this at the next prompt. Thank you. For Immediate release: Announcing a special offer for all Macintosh users! Available immediately, a special money saving offer from The Source. Now you can get a FREE sign up on The Source and receive a $60.00 usage credit! Available world-wide, The Source is the oldest and one of the best known of the major Telecomputing Services. MacSIG on The Source is extending this offer to the users of the net. MacSIG offers it's users faster and much more reliable communications and vastly simplified file transfers. Files are available in the MacSIG Software Library and via your own personal Share Files area! Each user on The Source has two file directories, one for his own personal files and one where he can make files available to the other users of The Source. Files may be uploaded to MacSIG or to your own file area via Text Upload, Xmodem and Kermit protocols. MacSIG members also benefit from the MacSIG POSTPLUS, an Electronic Message Base and from PARTI, an Electronic Conferencing System. Of special note to PARTI users, unlike other Electronic Message Bases any PARTI User may create his or her own topics in PARTI at will! When you join a topic in PARTI, any new notes that are generated in that topic will appear in your INBOX for your convenience. No need to search multiple message bases to find out what's new! On The Source, CHATTING electronically in real time with other users is one of the best deals available anywhere. In CHAT, you are billed at the rate for 300 baud usage, regardless of the actual baud rate you are connected at! Following is the text and subscription procedure for you own account on The Source: Through a special arrangement with Source Telecomputing Corp., you can save $29.95 by joining The Source for free -- and also receive an extraordinary $60 credit. You've got to be a stubborn person.. I think you did it just to irritate people, since your PREVIOUS article is probably still un-expired on 80% of the sites on the net. Why don't you post this commercialized crap on comp.newproducts WHERE IT BELONGS .. -- Len Rose - NetSys internet: len@ames.arpa uucp: {ames,decuac,ihnp4}!netsys!len

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't commerical advertising illegal (or at least improper) use of USENET resources? I seem to recall reading that somehwere. Anyway, there is a specific newproducts group, even though this is no product. It really irks me to see people misuse the net like this. -- .......................................................................... Len, I'm not particularly stubborn, no. Or at least I try not to be. I did not repost the note to irritate people. I try to avoid that wherever possible. As I clearly stated, it was due to a LARGE dmeand that I do so. Why didn't I post this to comp.newproducts? Didn't know about it. Didn't, in fact, know that messages of a "commercial" nature were verboten. Also, now that I know about comp.newproducts, I will still not post there, as, if after a couple of years on the net, if I don't know about it, chances are fairly good that many other people don't either (not claiming to be a net expert, just a general comment). Why did the repost irritate you, I did, after all, give LOTS of warning. And, if you don't get the other note I posted prior to this one before you get this one (I love usenet time warps) then, to encapsulate it, I apologise if I have offended you. And again, to those that sent thank you letters, you're welcome. -- =============================================================================== Jonathan Bing, Master (cheeser) ...ihnp4!hoptoad!dasys1!cheeser "Pereant, iniquit, qui ante nos nostra dixerunt!" also "Non illegitimus carborundum!" ....crash!pro-charlotte!cheeser

The net is for messages of general interest to the USENET community. I found the offer interesting, as I'm sure did many people who are not Source subscribers but who might be willing to subscribe if it were cheaper. Granted, this offer was not enough to entice me, but it was still an interesting offer. If we were to take the definition of what is a legitimate posting as nar- rowly as you seem to suggest, we might have to eliminate whole newsgroups. Certainly comp.newprod would have to go. I, for one, am interested in hearing about offers of this sort. If you want to argue about whether it should have been in this newsgroup, that is another story.
