[comp.sys.mac] Laserwriter / photocopier combo?

baulch@svax.cs.cornell.edu (Garth Baulch) (05/11/88)

It would seem that since laser printers and photocopiers are basically
the same on the inside, someone would market a device that fulfills
the functions of both. Indeed, I have seen such a creature from
Xerox, but it has no postscript interpreter. My question is this:
Does anybody make a combined laser printer and photocopier that is
postscript compatable (i.e. I want to use it with a Mac.)?

Any information would be appreciated.....

Ummm, you could try getting a 300 DPI scanner, scan in stuff,
and then send it to the LaserWriter direcatly from the scanning
software. We have a DataCopy 700 series scanner and the MacImage
software for it and it seems to be able to scan in most things
very well. All you then have to do is save it in one of many
formats (LaserBits, Postscript, PICT, MacImage format, MacPaint,
etc) or print directly from the program. It seems to be very
popular in the lab that I work, and it works via the SCSI port to
transfer data from the scanner to the Mac.

Of course this requires you to have two seperate devices and it
sounds like you one all-in-one device that does what you want.
