[comp.sys.mac] On Cue by IMI Software

chow@batcomputer.tn.cornell.edu (Christopher Chow) (05/15/88)

Has anyone purchased On Cue by IMI Software? I recently downloaded MFMenu+
1.31 from a bboard, which is apparently a demo version of On Cue. MFMenu+
seems pretty useful [its basiclly MFMenu with document/application launch
capability], so I'm considering getting On Cue. If you already have it I'd
like to hear from you.

I haven't purchased but I have seen it run and played with it. It works quite
well. I don't know what MFMenu+ looks like so I cant compare. It lets you
launch documents and applications and switch between opened applications. You
can also go the the DA handler. It has a "Configure" and a "Preferences" menu
items. Configure lets you add applications to the list and attach documents to
an application. Preferences lets you turn on and off features like whether the
icon appears on boot up, whether the small icon appears in the menu bar, if
the application switching section of the menu appears, if the menu can be
pulled down on the left, if the menu is to drop down automatically upon the
cursor entering the pulldown regions, a key board shortcut to application
switching, if small icons are to appear in the menu, whether the menu can be
pulled down anywhere and what the modifier keys are to do so.

The only short comming I could find is to open a document for an application
that is already open. I tried this with a beta 6.0 System and it still didn't
work.

At their introductory price of $29~ I figured that it would be a fair
addition to my plethora of INITs. Well, folks, silly me..it's not a
fair addition, it's a GREAT addition. I have been a user of MFMenu(s)
for quite a while and now I have something good to replace it with.

It allows you to set up applications, in the menu, to launch when selected.
And if you want documents attached to the applications, fine, add then,
hierarchically, to the menu. Plus, it acts as a regular MFMenu type
replacement and is user-configurable.

Want the On Cue! icon in the menubar? Ok configure it, and configure
if you want key/mouse combos to drop the menu. How about NO mouse click
to drop the menu? You can set it to drop its menu whem the mouse just
MOVES to EITHER END of the menubar.

I recommend this one highly (could you guess?) and would even pay twice the
price (which is about what it will go for retail) if I hadn't already
paid less :-).

I just purchased On Cue over the telephone, after seeing a co-worker use it
at Fluke. Basically, it allows me to get rid of PowerStation, especially in
Multi-Finder, where PS takes up about 150K in memory. Jump to any
application or document at any time. Really slick, and it seems to work
with any application I have.

Before June 1st, the price is $24.95 (plus $3 S&H) if you order direct from
IMI Software. Orders can be made w/charge card at (800) 284-4647. It goes
up to 39.95 after June 1st.

Of course, I've got no affiliation with IMI Software. I just like their
doohickey.
