[?] I Gotta Question: My father-in-law needs some info on what he has been told are "4th Generation Languages". I assume they are things like mainframe-database-manipulation-report-generation languages. So far he's heard of 3: MAPPER -- Sperry LINK -- Burroughs NATURAL -- IBM Who can give me some insight into these guys? What do they do, and how well? Are there others around that do similar things? Which would you recommend? Which would you stay away from? Pointers to other sources of information would be helpful also. My father-in-law works for a large Oregon company that will remain unnamed (not Tek), but whose stock is selling for about $9/share now. They are trying to "computerize" some of their information flow, and these languages have been suggested as ways of helping that along. I assume they are languages in the same sense that VisiCalc (tm) is a language (see last months Scientific American article by Alan Kay of Apple). Your Consideration Is Appreciated.
