[comp.sys.mac] Interfacing a hard drive to Mac

gingold@husc7.HARVARD.EDU (David Gingold) (05/26/88)

I have just purchased a 10 Meg hard drive ($75 - cheap!). The drive has a
standard Winchester interface (ST506, I believe) and even works plugged into
my friends PC. But I want to plug it into my Mac, preferably through the
SCSI port.

The first thing I need is an interface between the SCSI port and the disk.
I found a company (Computer Surplus, advertised in Byte) which claims to sell
a board which does this, but gave me very few details. I'm willing to
build such a device if it can be done with a reasonable amount of work.

The second step is to get together some driver software. I really have little
or no idea how to do this, but again, I'm willing to do some work. How generic
can this software be?

Has anyone had any experience doing this? Any ideas?

I'd love to post a description if how to do this if I can get something to
work.
