HELP!!!! Last night at 1 in the morning I attempted to install a new scroll bar cdef that has been posted (but not yet been listed in an info-mac digest) to sumex. THe installation did not go through as I had some things in the wrong place. Somewhere along the line though I fried somethingg in the boot sequence of my II's Apple 40-meg drive. THe machine now gets just past the happy mac and then I get a black screen and a four-rising-notes diagnostic music. Must press reset to get out. I can boot off floppy fine and then use the HD, though attempts to switch to its system (by command-option-ing finder, or by exiting an application run off the HD) lead to errors (I think #23). I'm running system 4.2 finder 6.0 with lots of inits, though the death happens before any init icons come up. Disk First Aid reports that it is unable to determine the status of the disk. Disk Express reports 4 directory blocks as allocated but not in use (or someth ing like that). apple's scsi setup happly updates the scsi driver, and fedit+ merrily writes boot blocks, but to no avail. I would like to avoid reformatting (naturally) Any help will be massively appreciated. FLASH UPDATE: I just reset my pram, and now I get smiley mac followed by sad mac with the numbers 0000000F 00000028 ------------------------- Josh Hodas (hodas@eniac.seas.upenn.edu) 4223 Pine Street Philadelphia, PA 19104 (215) 222-7112 (home) (215) 898-9515 (school office)
