Several people replied with help, when I complained that I was having major problems (crashes, lots of em) with StuffIt 1.40A and the new System (well, 4.2/6.0). Raymond Lau also mailed me the workaround, and further informed me that a new version of StuffIt (1.40B) is now available. The workaround is this: if you are using StuffIt 1.40A with the new Systems under MultiFinder, DO NOT CHECK the 'Allow Background Tasks' option in the Options menu. TURN IT OFF, and all your problems will dissappear.
