My mailer swallowed my response to you (I haven't the faintest idea where it went ...), so I thought I'd try this route to see if you're around somewhere. Thanks for letting me know about the FW bundle bit problem. Yes, the finder thinks all the documents belong to the dictionary. The question remains - how do I fix the bundle bit on the dictionaries and thesaurus. I have MacTools which will allow me to edit the files, but I don't know _where_ the bundle bit is in the file. (I realize that I have to set the "finder flags" business to zero, but I don't know where they are [their offset from the beginning of the file, for example]). Any suggestions? To be honest, having to move the application around on the desktop before launching is driving me nuts. While, we're at it: is there any way you can think of to open that file that was messed up while I was trying macro maker? Right now, FW just sits there and spins the watch cursor. The "opening document" dialog box is on the screen but no disk access occurs. Sort of sounds like something has been "set" in the file ...(?)
