I have several friends who have recently purchased Macs of varying
configurations. It seems that I am continuously getting mail say-
ing "What do I need to get started?"
What I would like to do is install a "Beginner's Toolbox" on the
public access Macs at UKentucky's Computer Center. This idea, of
course, leads to the question "What should be included in this
Toolbox??" Just off the top of my head, I came up with the following:
MacKermit
StuffIt
BinHex
PackIt III <for some of the older archives out there>
FatMouse <I find it useful>
MacMan DA <for beginning programmers>
SysErr DA <table of system error messages>
Introduction to Macintosh Technical Notes
Index to Macintosh Technical Notes
MacSnoop <or equivalent>
ICONMaster <or equivalent>
I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have for items to include <or
exclude> from this Toolbox. *Please* use email; I'll post a summary of
replies to the net. Please give concrete reasons for the inclusion or
exclusion of certain items; I don't want to get into "X is much better
than Y" wars without specific points to discuss.
Thanks for your help.
