[comp.sys.mac] 3.5 inch drives on a Mac

lharris@gpu.utcs.toronto.edu (Leonard Harris) (06/04/88)

Hi.
Does anyone know how to modify a 3.5 inch drive to work on a Mac.
I'm not worried about disk ejects, just how to interface it.
On a related note - where could I find details of how the "IWM"
works and disk formats on the mac. Has anyone designed an equivalent
circuit to the IWM? Thanks in advance

Inside Macintosh has some details on IWM signals. Word from Sony
(and I had to call six different divisions to find out) is that the
Mac drives have special electronics. You CANNOT modify a standard
3.5" drive for the Mac.

The Central Point Systems Copy II PC Deluxe Options Board lets you
read and write Mac disks on a PC class machine, so there is obviously
some compatibility. But the hardware is entirely different.
