It is very easy to turn on a Mac II automatically. All it takes is some hardware hacking and a book on ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) devices, and a few weekends of spare time. You see, ADB must have power all the time. Otherwise, how could you hit the *on* switch on your keyboard to start the machine? All we need is a $5 box with a CMOS microprocessor, daisy-chained on the ADB bus, which sleeps until the appropriate moment, then does what the keyboard does. You could program the microcontroller by sending ADB signals. I've been nursing this idea for many months, but it sounds like everyone else is thinking the same thing. Are there any entrepreneurs out there on the net? I'm too lazy to get it to work. Don Gillies {ihnp4!uiucdcs!gillies} U of Illinois {gillies@cs.uiuc.edu}
