Here are the new LAYO options (and what most of them do). Sort Style: (don't know) Watch Thresh: Busy time before the watch appears (in 1/60ths of a second). Use Phys Icon: Use the icon indicating the physical disk rather than the disk type (e.g., the picture of a Mac II with an arrow pointing to the right disk drive instead of the picture of a diskette). Title click: Make a double click in the title bar of a folder window open the parent of the folder (hurray!). Copy Inherit: On an AppleShare server, make a copy of a folder inherit the privilege settings of its parent folder. New Fold Inherit: On an AppleShare server, make a new folder inherit the privilege settings of its parent folder. Color Style: If non-zero, reverses the icon color scheme. Unselected icons will be outlined in black and filled with their color, rather than outlined in color and filled with white. (Note that this option produces a pretty scary display when you first turn it on, since most icons' colors are set to black.) Max # of windows: Maximum number of windows the Finder can have open. You might want to increase the Finder's memory allocation if you change this. WARNING: All of this information is unofficial, unsupported, and subject to change at any time. (I bet you already knew that.) WARNING #2: If you modified your LAYO resource before Finder 6.0, and copied it into your new Finder, do not open it with ResEdit to change the new settings. Older LAYO resources are too short, and will be extended with zeros by ResEdit. Zero is not an appropriate setting for most of the new parameters. Use the LAYO resource from a real Finder 6.0. - Walt -- Walter Smith Apple Computer wrs@apple.com Special Projects (408) 973-2707 Disclaimer: Anyone who thinks I might be representing Apple Computer, Inc. in any official capacity on Usenet, of all places, has a serious attitude problem.

Much by accident, I discovered that Sort Style is the way that Finder displays user what way a folder is sorted by in View by Type, Date, Size, Spelling. (in Big/Small Icon, it is obvious) Setting Sort Style in Finder to a mask (0-26) will hilight the appropriate label in the second line of the folder's window. Mask is: (Plain : 0) Bold : 1 Italic : 2 Underline : 4 Outline : 8 Shadow : 16 So, bold italic (I use it) is 3. Found this after I got 26 in there when I hosed my LAYO, seriously :-) Cheers, James |James Cayz can be found via: USPS: Educational Technology Laboratory, |E-MAIL (ARPA): cayz@louie.udel.edu : 203 Willard Hall Education Building, |PHONE: +1 302 451-6307 : University of Delaware, Newark DE 19716
