There was something on the net about this a while back, but I didn't pay any attention. Now I just noticed my system file is 16 Mbytes in size. It works fine, with one exception: up to today when I opened the control panel to switch KCHRs (key maps), the dialogs would take up to a minute to update (on a MacII). Now I can't even open it: bus error. I examined the file with resedit, and managed to determine that all resources except SICNs amount to about 500 Kbytes. I can't measure the size of SICNs: when I copy one and paste it to an empty file, the next ressources (STR#, WDEF, etc..) get pasted too. The trouble might be due to the fact that I did some KCHR and SICN editing under Multifinder on an active system (Resedit prevents you editing ressources after PTCH, but not allways. It doesn't prevent pasting.). While I'm at it, here's a nasty bug in Resedit 1.1d4 (the one that came with MPW 2.0) and 1.1b3 (MPW 2.02). In the hex editor, if you paste to a selection, data is inserted but the selection is NOT replaced. This can be disconcerting... Older versions (1.0d12) are ok. Alain de Cheveigne alain@urubu.uucp
