This morning's Boston Globe reports that Lotus Development Corp. is dropping plans to complete and release Modern Jazz, successor to Jazz, Lotus's integrated environment (sort of like MS Works). They will concentrate on the Mac version of 1,2,3. Lotus would not comment on whether any jobs would be lost as a result of this decision. /JBL UUCP: {backbone}!bbn!levin USPS: BBN Communications Corporation ARPA: levin@bbn.com 50 Moulton Street POTS: (617) 873-3463 Cambridge, MA 02238

Not that Excel is perfect, but need we RELLY perpetrate 1-2-3 on the Mac world? I wonder if they will port over the 'look and feel' of original 1-2-3. AACK!!!!!! Perhaps we need to develop a (quasi)new term for poorly-ported programs from the PC world to the Mac world: "Programs from Hell" Who knows; maybe it'll catch on! -- Rich Straka ihnp4!ihlpf!straka Avoid BrainDamage: MSDOS - just say no!

I think Lotus will be able to 1-2-3 on the Macintosh and probably do it well, probably better than Microsoft did with Excel. Personally, I'm looking forward to the Macintosh version of 1-2-3. I don't know if I'll buy it (probably not) but it will knock down one of the last walls to Macintosh acceptance in the business world. Hell, if it runs WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3, what more does it need to run? :^) :^) :^) --- "Eve tempted Adam with an apple, Peter Merchant (merchant@eleazar.UUCP) But I ain't goin' for that." Several years ago I worked for the company which produces NOMAD (a
DBMS which includes a 4GL) - inevitably someone would attempt to port
their COBOL applications to the 4GL by simply changing the syntax to
use NOMAD keywords instead of COBOL keywords (and munging around a
bit). The result was HORRID - wouldn't execute in the same century as
started, etc. We used to say that these abominations were written in
NOBOLs (no balls).
Perhaps we should call the "Programs from Hell" PCintosh programs
(Pukeintosh).
