DA-STARS-18.HQX.3 currently in the info-mac@sumex directory claims to be a version of this screensaver DA that works with the Mac II. It crashes my SE under System 4.2, Multifinder 1.0 in smoke and flames. Stars shooting through my windows, and in inverse through the windowframes, icons, menu bar. No visible cursor. Trying to shut down -> total lockup. Is this a feature? - Dave Matthews ARPA:matthews@tcgould.tn.cornell.edu BITNET:matthews@crnlthry USENET:...{cmcl2,shasta,uw-beaver,rochester}!cornell!batcomputer!matthews

This problem may have been discussed before, but since multifinder opens desk accessories not attached to the current application, Stars ends up kind of floating in space (pun intended, sorry). Thus the windows stay open instead of being blanked. The lockup is because the current process doesn't close stars on a mouse click and stars stays open. If you click on the selection icon and get stars back to the correct level, you can end stars and return to multifinder or any open window. To make Stars work correctly, you must hold down the option key when selecting it. That way it becomes the controlling task and will get the mouse click that is intended to return to the desktop.

That's funny. I have a version of Stars (1.8) that works as described. I also have a DA called Stars II, and it claimed to be Mac II compatible, and is apparently. Perhaps you got which one was supposed to be Mac II compatible mixed up? Robert Brewer brewer@clio.las.uiuc.edu {ihnp4 | convex | pur-ee}!uiucuxc!clio!brewer
