[comp.sys.mac] Wanted: Desktop Manager INIT from AppleShare

chris@umbc3.UMD.EDU (Chris Schanzle) (06/22/88)

Hi Gang -

On several occasions people on the net have mentioned that terrific
little INIT that comes with AppleShare (Desktop Manager if I recall
correctly) that speeds up desktop operations by an order of magnitude
or so. Having a CMS SD60 nearly full (ok, ok, so I have 10 megs of
digitized Star Wars sounds...), I'm seriously growing old while
waiting for the desktop file to be updated - it's slowing me down to
the speed of (*gasp*) floppies! (Not all the time, of course...)

I would be eternally thankful if someone could bounce me a copy of it
along with any information they have. If there are people out there
who are interested in more info also, I be certain to pass it along.

Disclaimer: I don't know if it's legit or ethical to use this bugger
on my the drive w/o actually owning Appleshare. However, if it's
going to make me more (here's that magical buzzword) productive and
efficient, I don't think I'd loose sleep over it. Naturally, I have
no need/use/desire to own Appleshare, not to mention the high
price-tag - just this little utility. I've been hesitating to post
this for quite some time now due to the flames I'll certainly receive,
but most of use are reading this to make better use of our Macintoshes
- including myself.

I have a Jasmine 80 so I'm growing old even faster than you! :-)
I've also read about this init and assumed it would be part of the
new system upgrade. That appears not to be the case. I think Apple
should make it legal to post this init so that we can all live
longer lives...
