[comp.sys.mac] FullWrite and Small Caps

And to think there was a time when I wasn't sure that 'postnews' took my
views out to the world. Boy, did a lot of people take the time to point
out that Microsoft Word has Small Caps. As an employee of Ashton-Tate,
I hope it didn't seem that my innocent error was competitively motivated.
It wasn't.

I've used Word for almost a year without tripping over Small Caps (it's
in the Character dialog, not the Style menu). I like Word, but I just
finished a 30-page proposal using FullWrite and I personally prefer
Full Write. Ashton-Tate is a very big company; I don't know anyone
associated with the writing or marketing of FullWrite and in fact I'm
using a pirate copy :-) (I think it's okay within the company, but
who's to say I won't be arrested tomorrow?) The point is, I'm not trying
to sell FullWrite to you any more than Alexis is pushing FoxBase. 8)

Someone wrote that he'd rather have the best word processor coupled with
the best page layout program, instead of an integrated program. I agree
with this concept in general (I don't like integrated programs per se)
but the definitions of minimum functionality in a product category are
so fluid. Should a word processor read and write files when the Clipboard
is right there ready to be used? Why should a word processor handle
printing when you could just run "the best printing utility" instead.
The answer is that there is added value when the word processor handles
the printing because it has intimate knowledge of the document being
printed. I say the same is true for page layout.

I'll have to be more careful with what I post now that I know people
are reading it.
