I think that if the ability to create MFS folders on HFS systems is added, they definitely should have a unique icon, and perhaps should have their own menu item for creation, i.e. "New Folder" / "New Envelope". (I like the earlier suggestion to call them "Envelopes.") Either the psuedo-MFS concept or having INIT 31 simply look for folders containing startup files will work I think. Meanwhile, here's another way to clean up your System Folder: Find a utility such as the DeskZap DA or similar that lets you set file attributes, and make the clutter files "Invisible" !! They'll still be recognized, but as far as folder organization they don't exist. Some programs reset the attri- butes of their data files whenever they're resaved, i.e. they don't stay invisible, but these are in the minority. Caution: Don't forget the files are there! Especially make sure you still know what INITs and CDEVs are happening when you launch, and don't forget to backup any invisible settings files. The files should always appear in opening dialogs of any APPL that owns them, and of the utility that made them invisible -- so you can always check on or re-visibilize them. This is also great for the High Scores files of games, macro/procedure files for term programs which you don't need to launch directly, and dictionary/ glossary files of word processors.
