I am about to buy a MacIntosh, but before I do that I need to be sure it will work with an Epson FX80 fully compatible printer. I prefer the better resolution (240x216 against 160x144 ?!) and price combination. I know of two packages, one called Print-Link and the other Epstart, but I don't know how well they perform. I haven't enough knowledge about the MacIntosh and QuickDraw, but I understand some programs bypass the printer driver and go straight to the printer interface. Is this true? Any experiences with such hardware/software combination? Which programs don't work on it? Do these packages emulate the same resolution of the ImageWriter or go to the limits of the printers they are targeted for? Going further into this subject, how does a MacIntosh program/QuickDraw handle a pixel based drawing program? I think the printer's resolution should be known in advance, therefore not allowing a generic printer driver. Any points/facts on this are most welcome.
