[comp.sys.mac] The Death of "Macintosh Today"....

dplatt@coherent.com (Dave Platt) (07/12/88)

I found the following article on my local EchoMac feed this weekend...

 From: Vernon Keenan
 To: All Msg #334, 06-Jul-88 06:57pm
 Subject: Mac Today is Dead

Today was indeed a sad day for the people who worked at Macintosh Today
magazine. Today it was discolosed that Mac Today has been killed by PCW, and
will be abosbed as a section in InfoWorld.

There was, shamefully, unabashed partying at MacWEEK!

 You heard it here first...

	Here's a laugher:
'
Like thousands of others, I'm sure, I dutifully filled out the free
subscription questionnaire a few months ago for "Macintosh Today", only to be
discouraged by reading accounts of others, far more qualified to receive this
weekly magazine, as they described how they were shot down for a free sub-
scription, but were offered one for $50 or $80 or something. I don't even use
a Mac at work, although I have an old 1984-era museum piece at home.

Today I read the article posted about the demise of "Mac Today", then,
not 5 min. later during a trip to the head, what do I find in my mailbox?
Right you are! July 11 issue of "Mac Today" which, I understand is the final
issue. Now isn't that special.....

Are you sure the mag is going down?????

Everyone said something was up when there was no issue the first week in
July.

If you read the "credits" (page 4 of Jul 11) it says:

"...is published weekly escept for the first week in July and the last week in
December...."

Have ya'll just made up the rest of the story or is it comfirmed that the
magazine is in trouble?

I've done a fair amount of writing for both Macintosh Today and MacWorld. Two
of my editors called me earlier this week to give me the bad news -- yes, it is
true that the publication (Macintosh Today) is being discontinued.
