A while ago, I wrote asking for help in stripping the system (4.1) of resources that, for a Mac+, are not needed. This was taken from an article in the Sept. A pared down system file on a Mac+ would be highly desirable for any number of reasons. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ? Could some one confirm these are the correct ones, or otherwise respond ? ? in some way on how to strip the system file on a Mac+ to only what is ? ? needed on the Mac+ ? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? -- ...!{decvax,ima,ism780c,ulowell,laidbak,cgeuro,cg-f}!cg-atla!ring Steve Ring CompuGraphic Corp. Another good way of stripping a System for a Plus is to use the dreaded Installer [ :-) ] to install the System to a disk that DOES NOT already have one. That is, first delete the System, Finder, etc. from your target disk, then boot with the new System and run Installer. I found that this reduced the size of my Plus System from 330k to 280k (or numbers in that area). The 330k is the standard, unstripped size of the System, so even if the numbers are wrong, you get the idea. Oh yeah, if you do this, make sure you have 2 disk drives, or you're in for some swapping... :-( -- Steve Baumgarten | "New York... when civilization falls apart, Davis Polk & Wardwell | remember, we were way ahead of you." {uunet,cmcl2}!esquire!sbb | - David Letterman

I don't know if people just didn't know it exists or what, but in System Software 6.0 there is a set of installer scripts to do just that (install a minimum System file on a particular disk) they are on Utilities 1, I believe. They are called Minimum Scripts, and there is one for each type of Mac (Plus, SE, II). I have not used them, but thats what Apple claims they do.. I have run 4.1 on a 512k with 64k ROMs. This was a long time ago, the only application which I ran was VersaTerm PRO 1.0, and I no longer have access to that machine, which was upgraded anyway, but I distinctly remember that it did run. I don't think the performance was real good, however. Earle R. Horton. H.B. 8000, Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH 03755
