[comp.sys.mac] Mac+ ROM upgrades

engber@speedy.cs.wisc.edu (Mike Engber) (07/17/88)

This is a reply to a question from Larry Gegel as to how to convince his dealer
that there is a free ROM upgrade for his Mac+ (my email response bounced)

Convincing dealers of this is not an easy thing to do. I went to talk to the
Apple Service Facility that did my upgrade last August. They told me they never
heard of such a thing. I guess it was all a figment of my imagination.

I finally prevailed on them to look a little harder. I think they came up with
the right info.

Tell your dealer to look in his Service Programs 3-ring binder for Product
Notice OKJ767 on page 8.4.8. This section describes that the new ROMs are
versions B&C and how the dealer gets reimbursment for the parts (not labor).

Part of getting this to work may be to argue that your ROMs are defective
since you cannot boot the machine without the attached hard disk being
turned on.
