I ran across an accident waiting to happen in my system file a few minutes ago (unfortunately). I had just installed system 6.0 in my Mac II, and I dragged the Vaccine CDEV to my system folder. I opened the control panel to configure it so that the init part of it would take effect when I rebooted. It was at this point that my system died. I hit the programmers switch to reboot, but no dice -- it would not boot off of the hard drive. I booted off of a floppy, and tried to open my system file with Resedit. I got an error message that indicated that the resource map was corrupted. I re-tried the above procedure on a floppy, but I substituted the Moire CDEV -- the result was the same. I have two questions. 1. Is there any way to rebuild the resource map for my system file ? 2. Is this type of occurrence something that should happen, or is it a problem in 6.0. If you dont reboot the system after installing a combination init/CDEV, it trashes your system. Any thoughts on this matter would be appreciated. Mike Bell Bell@eniac.seas.upenn.edu
