[comp.sys.mac] Imagewriter clone

jeric@tybalt.caltech.edu (J. Eric Grove) (07/19/88)

I just saw an ad in "The Computer Shopper" for a Seikosha SP1000A
printer for $160. That sounds attractive. Has anyone actually
seen, played with, or owned one?

I'd rather not spend $450 on an ImageWriter worth ~$200.

Please email. I'll post a summary if there's any interest.

Q: Why does it take a software engineer so long to wash his hair?
A: Because the instructions say, "Lather, rinse, repeat."

Yes, I bought one 2 weeks ago. I love it. Especially the price.
It is 100% compatible with the ImageWriter I. The Mac doesn't know the
difference. No drivers or special procedures are needed. And it has a very
nice feature: the single sheet feed.
As far as performance goes, its draft print is as fast as the
Imagewriter. Its Best and graphics are much slower.
But the quality is the same.
One thing I cannot do is to use my Thunderscan with it because its ribbon
is the flat type and the Thunderscan detector box doesn't fit.
But what the heck. You can't beat the price. And it comes with
a 2 year warranty. I am glad I bought it.

You bet! I've been waiting for such a buy for a long time.
