[comp.sys.mac] Dos Cards, Porta-Mac's, and printer/scanner info query

reeck@lclark.UUCP (David Reeck) (07/26/88)

HP Scanjet, HP Paintjet, Scanners in General.

I need some information. I am working for a school resale
program, and we have found the need to get information on things not
offered by apple. Specficly I am looking for information on:

Dos cards: The AST card, what does it do, how well, and
how much
Portable macs: How much, how soon, specfics.
Laptop mac interfaces: What computers that are laptops go
relativley well with the mac. i.e. the tandy 100 can zap right across
from the serial ports I here...
Scanners: We are looking for a flatbed. All the options: color
300 dpi, whatever
I need to know about the HP scanjet for the mac: how much
what does it do, stuff like that
I need to know about the HP Paintjet. Can it be connected to the
mac II? Does it need a cricket driver (?) what does it do.

If you would be so kind to share any of this information
with me if you possess it, I will be more than happy to summarize to the
net, or hand it out individually to people who might need and or want it.

		Thanks very much

I work for HP as is obvious so I will try to give just the facts without
any sales pitches.

The HP ScanJet runs on Mac+, SE, and II using System 4.1/Finder 5.5 or
later. The ScnaJet is a flatbed, 16 gray levels, and the software runs
as DA. The ScanJet lists for $1495 and the Mac interface includin
software lists for $495. An automatic document feeder is $595.
I don't know what else to tell without more info on what you what/need
to know or how the scanner will be used.

The HP PaintJet can be connected to a Mac II. The only driver that is
available now is from SoftStyle, which is now part of Phoenix Technologies.
Their address is 7192 Kalanianaole Hwy., Suite 205, Honolulu, Hawaii 96825.
Phone - (808)396-6368. I have heard about the Cricket driver but I don't
think it is released yet. A word of caution - some of the softwar
packages that support color won't print color to the PaintJet. I don't
know whether it is the fault of the package or the driver. Hooking a
PaintJet to the Mac II does present some challenges and interesting
output at times but can be done.
