[comp.sys.mac] ADB Trakballs

Does anyone have any experience with the various ADB mouse replacements
such as the Kensington Turbo Mouse (mechanical) or the Abaton "opto-
mechanical" one? I don't want to spend a fortune, so I'm not looking
for a $150+ optical unit.

Well, I've had my Abaton trackball for about 2 days now, and I like it.
The ball is only resting on the rollers so all you have to do to clean it is
pick it up, no phillip screwdrivers required. My mouse scaling whent from
Full to #2.
On the other hand, at the Smithsonian we bought the Asher engineering one
to test, and it was terrible. The ball is too small and it doesn't roll freely.
I'll post a message about the Kensington one when we get it.

The abaton was $99 from MacConnection 1800-Mac&lisa.

I am using an Abaton ProPoint mouse on a MacII and I love it. Whenever I have
to use a normal mouse on one of our other systems I realize how much I like the
Abaton. My boss (an experienced Mac user) tried it and was not as impressed as
I am, so it may take you some time to get used to a trackball mouse. I started
using the ProPoint when I started using the Mac.

One thing I really like is the fact that it takes a set amount of desk space.
My desk is usually so crowded that a normal mouse doesn't have room to wander.
But that is a personal problem.
