Some friends of mine are unsatisfied with plots of data on their LaserWriter. The data originates on a mainframe, and gets converted to a PICT file by a custom utility on the Macintosh. The PICT file is then usually opened by MacDraw to do some editing (adding legends, etc.). The trouble is that the plots are rather big. A coordinate space of 20,000 by 20,000 is not unusual. We have found out, that if we scale down these pictures by redrawing them in a smaller rectangle (with our conversion utility) we appear to loose resolution in the LaserWriter output. There are peculiar "dents" in the plot that are probably due to rounding errors. What it all comes down to is that we want to be able to draw _accurately_ on LaserWriters. Can the net recommend plotting programs that will do the job? We are looking for PostScript programs, because MacDraw and MacDraw II have the too limited resolution. We would also like to draw finer lines...
