We tried the changes in uw_tty.c and uw_fork.c suggested in an earlier message here, but we still get some quirky behaviour. Here is a summary. 1) After starting the UW application on the MAC but before giving the uw command to the UNIX system, I try changing the initial window settings and setting TERM to the appropriate string. But only the ansi terminal setting works correctly with vnews and gnuemacs. I would have thought that as long as the setting and TERM were consistent, I would be OK. 2) Regardless of what I have as the default window setting, the first window to come up after sending the uw command to the UNIX system has a type of adm31, Happily, so does TERM and TERMCAP is a string with that one entry. 3) If I make another window either by selecting NEW on the menu or by using uwtool, then the deafult window setting takes effect. If it is not adm31, TERM is what it should be but TERMCAP is an empty string. So vnews and gnuemacs do not work right. Only with the adm31 setting do they work. Any explanations of what I am doing wrong or suggestions of what should be done differently. John
