Somewhere I think I heard of a way to initialize 400K disks with HFS. It was probably on this group, so forgive me for asking :-) I never was planning to use 400K disks, but at work there are some new ones and MFS is a real pain. So how does one initialize 400K disks to HFS format? Please reply via email to avoid cluttering up this group. Thanks in Advance David Shinberg dasy@mitre-bedford.ARPA harvard!linus!mbunix!dasy

To format a 400K HFS, use a system disk with Apple's Hard Disk 20 installed. This is the HFS driver all of the HD20 users had to use to handle their drives, which also makes your floppies HFS. It does, however, often corrupt and destroy your 400K's...

You can initialize a 400K disk to HFS (vice MFS)) by holding down the option key throughout the initialization process. Andrew Kwan
