I've heard vaguely about unix (other than AUX) on the Mac but do not know it's source. If any one knows of uucp or unix implementations for the any of the Mac range (Plus through to ][), I'd appreciate knowing also. I'd like to know also if there are any UsenNet Mac II nodes, since I'll be losing my access when I finish college, and I simply cannot live without my news... I know about the UUCP implementation called UUPC, however, I'm too lazy to port it over to the Mac myself. It apparently has already been ported by someone, but I haven't found it. Any help on this one would be appreciated. ||+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++|| || Blayne Puklich nopuklic@plains.NoDak.edu || || NDSU Student ACM use this-> NU087763@NDSUVM1.bitnet || || Chairperson North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND || || || || "Everyone should have a Corvette, I think." || ||-------------------------------------------------------------------------||

I hesitate to state the obvious, but you should be able to compile the USENET software (2.11) and RN under A/UX, since the authors have taken great care to allow these programs to run under almost any variety of *NIX. Just play with the localize file(s) and it *should* work - and it's free. Now all you need to buy is that 80M disk with A/UX....no problem, right? :-) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: Boyd Ostroff, Technical Director :: System Operator, "The CallBoard" :: Department of Theatre, SUNY Oswego :: - Serving the performing arts - :: Internet: ostroff@oswego.Oswego.EDU :: (315) 947-6414, 300/1200 baud, 8N1 :: Voice: (315) 341-2987 :: UUCP ...sunybcs!oswego!cboard!ostroff :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Anyway, I thought that some people might not be aware that this was a possibility....sorry if you were offended.... > >Tell you what...you drop the $3500 for me to get A/UX and ill be more than >happy to impliment your solution... > "The check's in the mail" :-) actually I'm quite happy with my AT&T 3B1 - it cost $2100 new, has 2 MB RAM/67 MB disk and runs the netnews software fine. You can pick up models of the 7300 with smaller memory/disks for under $1000. Yes, I know that doesn't answer your question, but again, maybe it's of interest to somebody. Also note that there are MANY public-access UNIX systems across the country. Try reading or posting to comp.mail.uucp, comp.mail.misc, news.admin, etc. to find one in your area. BTW I have a Mac, and posted requests for info on UUPC or anything similar myself numerous times but have never received a reply either...I have to assume it's vaporware... ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: Boyd Ostroff, Technical Director :: System Operator, "The CallBoard" :: Department of Theatre, SUNY Oswego :: - Serving the performing arts - :: Internet: ostroff@oswego.Oswego.EDU :: (315) 947-6414, 300/1200 baud, 8N1 :: Voice: (315) 341-2987 :: UUCP ...sunybcs!oswego!cboard!ostroff :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I found UUPC for the mac in our archives. I haven't used it, but it runs under the Aztec C shell. It has not been intergrated to the Mac interface yet. UUPC for the mac was found on the net about a year ago. You can get it from uunet.uu.net. Unfortunately the mac version only runs under the Aztec C shell, no MPW or LSC support. Feel free to port this to macOS.
