[comp.sys.mac] Tape backups for Mac OS.

simon@alberta.UUCP (Simon Tortike) (08/12/88)

The time has come (to quote Lewis Carrol's walrus) to invest
in a tape or other backup facility for my copious quantities
of fortran code and other mundane items. Has anyone who reads
this conference have any experience with the various drives
on the market? I should be grateful for any advice that one
might give. If this has been discussed recently and someone
archived a copy of the discussion, would they please e-mail it to
me?
My needs are primarily backing up personal software on the Mac O/S as
successive versions---5 to 20 files per day. Distribution is a
minor concern only. I have a Mac II with a 40 Mbyte hard disc and
might be chaining another SCSI disc to this one soon. The software is
all-important, of course. Speed would be nice, and the ability
to quickly catalogue the archived files. A note on
archives---a hierarchical directory listing would be a good
idea. Flexibility in choosing the file or directory to back up
would be another good idea: type, creator, date of modification or
creation. Interface for idiots: I love being asked first before
anything is irretrievably deleted. Ability to process command
scripts: is this useful?
I'll summarize (=concatenate?) any responses I get and post them.

Thanks in advance.
