I've read some postings and refernces to SoundMaster 1.2. Does such an animal exist? And if so, where can it be had? Also, what changes are involved in it from 1.1? -- .......................................................................... (Actually, I was hoping someone would mail me a copy or let me know of an anonymous ftp address...) SoundMaster 1.2 does exist. It has a nicer layout and will allow a key sound, a space bar sound and a return sound. Which is really great for turning your mac into a manual typewriter! It will also tell you how big a sound is, let you play it, and tell you the total amount of memory being used by SoundMaster. Plus it has a start up icon... That's about all I can think of for new features over 1.1. Someone has probably already posted it to the net so I will save myself the time.... Mark Cookson

>Plus it has a start up icon... That's about all I can think of for new >features over 1.1. Someone has probably already posted it to the net so I Gee, am I the only person in the world who uses StartupDesk (an INIT which turns your StartupScreen into your desktop's background)??? These INITS which have start-up icons get trapped by StartupDesk, and remain embedded in my desktop! YUCK! PTEWEY! BOO! There are several neat INITs that I don't use because of this very reason! Is there maybe an ICON resource that you can cut out of these obnoxious INIT's, so that they WON'T put up an icon when you boot up? -Ted

Could well be! > These INITS which have start-up icons get trapped by StartupDesk, and >remain embedded in my desktop! YUCK! PTEWEY! BOO! I use an INIT called Backdrop, which has a companion DA that allows you to select any MacPaint file to open and use as the desktop WITHOUT REBOOTING!. The INIT itself doesn't keep the StartUpScreen around; rather, it selects a file at random from a folder named "Screens" in your System Folder and uses that. It has no problems with refreshing itself, and is compatible with ALL Macs (on the II/larger screens, your 512x342 pixel picture is centered on-screen...haven't tried it with larger pictures, but the DA allows you to set a "view" rectangle --the portion of a picture which will be used as the desktop.) Rather than be responsible for a lot of "me too!" posts, if you're interested, email me and I'll send it along (or post it to comp.binaries.mac if there's enough interest). >-Ted -ken ========== ==================================== ....... =========== Ken McLeod UUCP: {crash uunet}!pnet06!thecloud :. .: "Kenneth, ---------- ARPA: crash!pnet06!thecloud@nosc.mil :::.. ..::: what is the thecloud@pnet06.cts.com | thecloud@dhw68k.cts.com //// frequency?"

I would some other desktop keeper. I use Randomizer which is nice since it will, when used with a startup sound init and beep init, change your start up screen, startup sound, and beep each time you boot up. It also keeps the startup screen as your desktop and doesn't leave those unsightly inits.... Mark Cookson
