For some time now, I have been encouraging Ada compiler vendors to develop Ada compilers under the Mac OS (i.e., not A/UX). It is not an easy job. Many in the Ada world erroneously think that the Mac (Plus, SE, and II) is not a serious development platform. Many in the Mac world erroneously believe that all Ada compilers generate inefficient code. (You might be interested in a number of recently published benchmarks showing some Ada compilers producing better code than some C compilers.) While it has been difficult, I have made some progress. I have the attention of some of the Ada compiler vendors. Now I need some help from the readers of this newsgroup. Obviously, the compiler vendors are interested in how many copies of their products they could sell. To begin to answer this question, I need the answers to some questions: 1) Who is interested in Ada compilers for the Mac OS? 2) Of those who are interested, how many copies do you think you, your company, or organization might purchase? 3) What are your major requirements and considerations regarding such compilers? Please send your responses directly to me. I will post a summary to this newsgroup. Thanks in advance. -- Ed Berard (301) 695-6960
