[comp.sys.mac] Results of Dove Upgrade ...

Two weeks ago I posted a message about my attempt to upgrade my 512E to
2MB using the Dove MacSnap boards and the problem encountered with the
height of the RAM chips from the previous MacDoctor upgrade.

First the good news: In trying to remove the two sockets from the
motherboard, my local computer shop (Computer Shoppe) messed up the board.
But they gave me a real 512E board to replace mine!! They now have my unending
gratitude (not to mention all of my future business.) I was able to install
the SCSI board and RAM board without very much trouble. I added a Kensington
SystemSaver fan and all seems well.

Possible bad news: The folks that were most kind in replying to my previous
posting have indicated that Apple no longer supports my type of configuration
(2MB with 128K ROMs.) I was under the impression that I now had the moral
equivalent of a MacPlus! I understand that the clock chip isn't the same as
the one in the MacPlus, causing some of the CDEVs to not work as expected.
Is this the consensus? Is there yet another upgrade??

My thanks to the many of you that responded to my posting last week.
Thanks in advance to anyone with helpful info this week!
