I have used MacWorks+ for a while on my XL (with the screen
modification kit, 1meg RAM, 10meg internal, & 800K floppy) and I am
very happy and impressed. Excel 1.5, Word 3.0 (which worked before),
and Hypercard 1.0.1 all work great. It is great to see someone
supporting a good machine... its kind of like a fully restored
antique.
A couple of notes... Reportedly, MacWorks+ 1.0 does have problems with
terminal emulators, although I haven't used my XL for that. Also, a
couple of programs (eg. Pagemaker 3.0) check and notice they are on a
MacXL and refuse to run. Hypercard 1.2 cannot reliably run on 1meg
XLs due to memory constraints although Sun Remarketing says they are
working on that. The other problems which are mentioned above are
fixed in 1.0.1 which must be released since they are sending mine out
today.
MacWorks+ is packaged in several ways, alone, with an 800K floppy, and
with a hard disk and 800K. If you don't have the 800K, I recommend
it. Also, Sun hard disks are reportedly faster than the old Apple
10meg.
