[comp.sys.mac] Spell Checker for MockWrite

kriss@AUSTIN.LOCKHEED.COM (R M Kriss) (08/29/88)

Does anyone know of a Spell Checker that works with MockWrite?

The only way I know is to load the MockWrite generated text into a Word
Processor that supports a Spell Checker. What I would like is a DA Checker
that will work on a MockWrite file. I have MacLightning V2.0 that checks
the spelling, but will not correct the errors in a MockWrite file. Also,
Target Software no longer supports MacLightning.

Please reply by Email as I do not have real time access to the net.

Try Coach, it will check it as you type (works fine in miniWRITER).

I've never tried it, but this sounds tailor-made for "Thunder!", a DA
spelling-checker that's gotten pretty good reviews all around.

I don't know who makes it,
and I'm not affiliated with them, whoever they are.

Who publishes Thunder!?

Electronic Arts publishes Thunder!. It's available just about everywhere.
You can get it for about $30 by mail order.

In response to the original query about a spell-checker for MockWrite...

Perhaps you would do better with the commercial version of McSink. This DA
started out as shareware and is still available as such in its latest
incarnation, v. 6.1. However, the author has added some new features,
including macros and a built-in spell-checker, and has made it available in
the enhanced version as a commercial DA.

I've been using McSink for some time now, and I find it invaluable. It has
replaced MockWrite as my most used DA. McSink can work with files many times
the size of the 28K (I believe) limitation of MockWrite, offers multiple
windows, a host of formatting commands, fonts, etc., etc. MockWrite was fine
in its time, but that time has passed, and it is showing its age when compared
to DA's like McSink.

Here's the ordering info from the McSink DA:

By the way, the author of McSink is Dave McWherter. The name of the
commercial version of the DA is "Vantage". Although I do not yet have the
commercial version and so cannot verify that it is all that it is claimed to
be, since I have had such a positive experience with McSink, I have little
fear that Vantage will prove to be an excellent DA also.
